Sr Men win Gold & Sr Women Take Home Silver at PanAmerican Games

Pan American Inline Hockey Championship of Nations in Ibague, Colombia 2024 The USA sent a Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s team to Ibague, Colombia for the inline hockey Pan American Championship tournament.

With the support of USARS and Inline Hockey Committee Chair Chalie Sgrillo I was honored to select, train and coach both teams. The Senior Women played Colombia in the final game going into overtime before Colombia scored on a power play in overtime. The USA did not give up an even-strength goal in the championship game. The women played outstanding the entire tournament and came home with the silver medal.

The Senior Men’s game was a duplicate of the women's. The men played Colombia in the championship game. The men’s game was played in front of over 4,000 fans cheering for the home Colombian team. Just like the women’s game, the men went into overtime after Colombia tied the score with seconds left to the delight of screaming fans. The men were able to score first in overtime and clinch the gold medal.

This tournament was well organized by World Skate America and the Colombian Skating Federation. I have been to 14 world championships and this event ranks as one of best organized, best attended, and most fun of any of them. This event was amazing and I don’t have enough words to describe this experience so I will quote just a few of the players.

“I can truly say without a doubt this was one of the funniest teams I have been a part of in my hockey career…” Danielle Speroff

"I couldn’t have asked for a more incredible experience…” O’Hara Shipe

“Such a great honor…” Sandra Czech

“took like 20 photos and had a standing ovation in one of the hallways with people cheering GO USA!!!...” Aydin Schwetz
